Die ZEIT - 9 Mai, Treptower Park, Berlin
May 9th at the Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park, Berlin commissioned by Die ZEIT.
Every year the fall of German fascism at the end of the second world war is celebrated by the Russian community in Berlin at the site where 7,000 Soviet soldiers are buried, in the heart of the German capital. This year, because of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine, the usual ceremony was carried out under heightened emotions and police presence.
From pro Putin propagandists to anti-war protesters restaging the massacre in Bucha, contrary to most predictions there were no clashes between the groups.
